NDIS participant accessing the community with NAA support

Social & Community Access

Community Participation

Nurse Aid Australia supports NDIS participants to access their community — through individual outings, social activities, skill development, and structured programs. For participants with complex or forensic backgrounds, community access is supported through comprehensive risk management and experienced staffing.

Our Approach

Community participation for participants with complex needs

Community participation at Nurse Aid Australia is tailored to each participant's interests, goals, and risk profile. Participants have genuine choice and control over how they spend their time — with supports that can be participant-directed, structured, or a combination of both. For participants with forensic or high-risk backgrounds, community access is supported through comprehensive risk management processes.

  • Participant-directed, structured, or combined approach — based on individual goals
  • Support workers transport participants using approved vehicles
  • Public transport used where it aligns with participant goals and independence
  • Behaviour Support Plans and risk assessments in place for complex presentations
  • Additional staffing ratios — including 2:1 support — implemented where required
  • Guidance from Positive Behaviour Support Practitioners for high-risk participants

Funding

How community participation is funded

Community participation is generally funded separately from SIL through a participant's NDIS plan, under the Core Supports budget — Assistance with Social and Community Participation. This is a separate funding line from Supported Independent Living.

If you are a coordinator and need clarity on how community participation funding applies to a specific participant, contact us and we will talk it through.

From A Service Coordinator

From my experience, their carers show genuine compassion and go above and beyond to understand each participant's individual needs. The team is highly professional — clear communication, strong data collection, and thorough attention to detail. I would highly recommend NAA as a SIL and care provider.
